Mason, OH — The monthly magazine produced by the Christian Restoration Association (CRA), The Restoration Herald (RH), recently announced that they are changing the magazine’s name to better reflect the content contained within it, along with their subscriber base. According to inside sources, “Old Man Yells at Cloud” was the perfect fit.

In the newest issue, yet to hit the presses, the cover article states: “In the previous issue we announced the death of Cincinnati Bible Seminary/Cincinnati Christian University, which the Christian Restoration Association has been an important part of throughout the years. We decided that the time was right for a name change and that it was good for the newsletter. We are all old and we do yell a lot about how things aren’t like they used to be in 1924. And, you, our readers, are just like us. It is a very honest name. And we want you to know that the content of this magazine will continue in the same inflammatory style you have come to know and love.”

Below are CRA comments reflecting the mood at “Old Man Yells at Cloud”:

“Until a few years ago a CRA trustee had always been on the CBS (CCU) [Cincinnati Bible Seminary (Cincinnati Christian University)] board. Changes have been made this week that lead me to think it is time for the school to have another name change: ‘Ichabod University.’” [1]

“We have some wonderful men who stand alongside R.C. Foster, Lewis Foster, and George Mark Elliott in earnestly contending for the faith. But the appearance of anyone who gives the impression of leaning away from their stance is a matter of great concern.” [2]

With the projected success of the magazine’s relaunch, the CRA has also decided to change their name to “The Restoration Movement’s Magisterium” in order to reflect their stance as the Independent Christian Church/Churches of Christ’s authority to establish the church’s authentic teachings. Accordingly, there will be a new section entitled “Ex Cathedra Bethany.”

If you are old enough to collect social security, you are encouraged to subscribe to “Old Man Yells at Cloud.”

  1. This is clever and probably somewhat warranted in light of recent editions of The Herald. But then I think of trustees like Harvey Bream, Jack Cottrell and Bob Stacy. Do such godly men who have done so much for the kingdom deserve to be mocked like this? I think not. They stand as heroes of the faith in my book.

  2. I thought this was a satire. Until I read the comments! It’s true! It’s true! I, too, am old and I’m yelling at a lack of a sense of humor we Restoration types always seem to project! Oh well.

  3. I FIND IT A TRAGEDY WHEN A SCHOOL WAS BUILT AND FUNDED BY CHRISTIAN CHURCHES TO HAVE BEEN STOLEN OR SOLD OUT TO ANY ONE THAT COMES IN THE NAME OF “CHRISTIAN”. PAUL ADMONISHED THE ELDERS OF EPHESUS TO BEWARE THAT WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING WOULD ENTER AND WREAK HAVOC AMONG THE FLOCK. I HAD A YOUTH MINISTER WHO ATTENDED ACTS CLASS AT THE LATE CCU, WHO SAID IT WAS A WASTE OF HIS TIME AS THE TEACHER DID NOTHING BUT LECTURE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEGA CHURCH. ACTS CLASS SHOULD BE TO GIVE ITS STUDENTS A DOCTRINAL BASE FOR THE TEACHING OF THE CHURCH. GARETH REESE’S ACTS BOOK IS THE CANNON OF ACTS BOOKS FOR THE RESTORATION MOVEMENT.
WHEN THE EDITOR OF RH INTERVIEWED THE TEACHER OF THE ACTS CLASS, HE LIED ABOUT THE BOOK BEING OUT OF PRINT. AT THAT POINT, THE INTEGRITY OF THE TEACHER AND THE INTEGRITY OF THOSE WHO OVERSEE THE SCHOOL WENT OUT THE WINDOW.
CCU HAS LEFT THE RESTORATION MOVEMENT IN THAT IT HAS FORGOTTEN WHY IT WAS FOUNDED.
CCU WANTS TO PLEASE THE CROWD, IN STEAD OF PLEASING CHRIST.
I ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO VISIT THE CAMPUS. WATCH THE BEHAVIOR, THE DRESS, AND THE ATTITUDE OF THE STUDENTS THEY HAVE ATTRACTED TO THE SCHOOL.

    1. Dear Bill,
We at “Old Man Yells at Cloud” are looking for submissions from independent writers. We are impressed by your response to the article on this page. With your permission we would like to print your reply, from the comment above this one, in our next issue. We will make sure to preserve your format of yelling in “all caps,” as this is our preferred mode of communication. I believe that we are kindred souls in our shared love for the Restoration Movement. Please reply to this comment and let us know.

      Kind Regards,
Editor of “Old Man Yells at Cloud,” Lee Maysun
