Anaheim, CA – A segment of the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ has been unhappy with the North American Christian Convention (NACC) in recent years.  Some have boycotted the convention.  This year everything changed.  They came in droves.

What was the difference?  Donald Trump was the main speaker for the convention.  In his speech, he said, “Make the NACC Great Again.  Restore the 1970’s order of things.”

One former boycotter explained, “It was great he was here this year.  I had previously opposed speakers from outside the Restoration Movement, but this is an important exception to make.  I also really believed him when he explained how much he loved baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit…very genuine.”

“He treats women in a very biblical way,” said another. “It happens to be a very Old Testament way but at least it’s biblical.”

The president of the Convention explained the thinking behind Trump’s attendance:  “If you think about it, ‘Make America Great Again’ fits quite well with the ideal of restoring the church to be great again.  It was a natural fit to see Mr. Trump as our designated person to speak prophetically to the future of our churches.”

Like other Trump speeches, there were protesters, but they were protesting the woman who preached in the session before him.  They also started a new hashtag on Twitter, #Men’sMinistryMatters.  We interviewed one of the protesters next to their bonfire of Christian Standard issues.  “Despite the egalitarianism at this convention, Trump has really made this a great convention,” he said.  “It will be much better than the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) this year.  There is no way I am going.  They are letting that traitor Ted Cruz speak.”
