Asheville, NC – In the wake of controversy at Wheaton College related to Larycia Hawkins, the adult Sunday School class at First Baptist Church discussed the question of whether Christians and Muslims worship the same God. Having nothing to do with the lesson on the Parable of the Sower, the class discussion digressed into this theological dilemma.
When trying to highlight the differences with Islam, it became apparent the class was ripe with heresy. One said, “The Spirit is a force like in Star Wars.” Another said, “I’m pretty sure God [the Father] suffered on the cross.” And another said, “The Son was created.”
Despite the Trinitarian confusion, the class came to the unanimous decision that Muslims and Christians worship a different God. When asked about the deciding factor, the teacher said, “The Wheaton lady cited the antichrist for her position. You know…that tree-hugging, Mexican-loving, socialist pope.”
