Washington, D.C. – The Department of Education will send a “dear colleague” letter to school districts informing them that they must let students hangout in the teacher’s lounge if they self-identify as teachers. The letter stipulates that as long as a child’s parent or guardian expresses the child is a teacher, school officials cannot ask for evidence of a teaching license or completion of a bachelor’s degree. Failure to comply with the law will result in a loss of federal funding.
Representatives for the National Education Association say the letter is going straight into the shredder. One teacher said, “There is no way they are touching the coffee maker.”
